A new cycling and pedestrian trail is being constructed largely within the E&N rail corridor. The trail is planned to run directly alongside Westhills Transit Exchange within the Lakepoint District. It is being built in phases over a number of years and will be 17 kilometers in length when complete. This newest addition to the trail system provides an important non-motorized transportation and recreation link between Victoria and the Western communities.
The newest addition to the Westhills community is the Jordie Lunn Bike Park. The Jordie Lunn Memorial Bike Park is a one-of-a-kind recreational cycling space in the City of Langford that is free to the public and caters to cyclists of all ages and abilities. It combines elements of dirt jumping, a pump track, skills area, and cyclocross/mtb trails in one seamless platform. The Park serves as a year-round public cycling space for recreation and high performance training. In addition, it offers exciting programming and sports development for schools, sports teams, and clubs. The Jordie Lunn Bike Park is also positioned to become a major cycling event venue to host various cycling events such as Pump Track/Dirt Jump Competitions and Mountain Bike/Cyclocross races.
The Government of British Columbia has provided the Sooke School District with $23.3 million toward the purchase of 6.5 hectares (16 acres) of land in Langford. The district’s goal is to build an elementary school and a middle school on the site. The site is at the corner of the newly completed West Shore Parkway and Constellation Avenue in the Westhills development.
